Why extruder heater loss is worse than injection molding

Unlike injection molding presses that cycle, extruders run steady-state. The barrel is at process temperature (200–290°C typical for PE, PP, PVC, PET) for the entire production shift. Radiated heat loss is therefore continuous — every uninsulated hour is money leaving through the barrel wall.

The IWRAP extruder insulation system is manufactured as separate, indexed pieces so nothing obstructs maintenance: (1) barrel jacket in zones matching your heater band layout, (2) die-head jacket with cut-outs for pressure transducers and melt-temperature probes, (3) adapter jacket with a hinged split for quick access, and (4) screen changer cover.

Every piece uses a ceramic fibre core, aluminised radiant reflective layer, and abrasion-resistant fibreglass outer. Fasteners are heat-resistant velcro + stainless steel D-rings. Working temperature is rated 550°C continuous with short spikes to 700°C — well above typical extrusion process temperatures.
